  • The pedestrian tunnel which passes under the railroad tracks and leads to the Le Cure neighborhood has become a hotspot for developing street art in Florence. The walkway is a spider web of eight galleries, with all walls and ceilings covered with constantly changing vivid murals by diverse artists, particularly Ninja Numa Crew.
The underground passage has been nicknamed the “Tunnel of Dreams” thanks to a temporary exhibition by the artist collective Border Papers which, in honor of the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, filled the tunnel with 1,000 origami cranes, a moving tribute to the story of Sadako, a story immortalized in the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. It is the story of a young Japanese athlete struck by leukemia due to the radiation after the bombing, and her determination to make 1000 origami cranes, in the belief that as according to legend, she will be granted one wish — to run again.
Initially this remarkable installation was suspended from the ceiling of the tunnel, creating a sort of waterfall through which pedestrians could pass, creating a 3D piece of art that stirred the senses and emotions.
