The museum was inaugurated in 1970 and closed in 1979 for the unavailability of the premises in which it was housed. It was reopened after nearly two decades of work, thanks to the interest and commitment of the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento.The reopening was completed in 1997, by the Director Alberto Maria Arpino.
