Street art in Florence

Florence is the birthplace of Renaissance art, or as people put it the Cradle of the Renaissance (“la culla de Rinascimento”, in Italian). The city is like an open-air museum, rich in history and art. Yet, lately a special form of art has been flourishing in the capital city of Tuscany, as in other important European capitals: Street Art. Street Art has been developing for almost thirty years, and its creativity and uniqueness serve as means to communicate and raise awareness about social issues such as freedom of expression, pacifism, sexual freedom and anti-prohibition. Florence is full to the brim of very interesting examples of Street Art.
