The Eroica

The Eroica is a bike “race” – depending on the itinerary – which winds its way through attractive landscapes from Gaiole in Chianti to such scenic and iconic destinations as Siena, Valdorcia or Montalcino. It is open exclusively to riders with vintage bikes called Bici Eroiche (Heroic Bikes).
The event was created in 1997, as a way for exploring and promoting Tuscany’s cultural and environmental heritage, not to mention, to reacreate the golden era of cycling, captured by the glorious endeavors of Coppi and Bartali.
The Eroica is famous all around the world and attracts participants from all countries who come to ride these panoramic roads with their vintage bikes. Admission is limited, with current participants numbering more than 5,000 and 15,000 people total including families.
The Eroica is also a great permanent cyclo-tourist path, well marked open to all, throughout the year. Tourists and amateurs can enjoy 205 or 135 km long itineraries, starting at and returning to Gaiole in Chianti. Tuscany’s cultural and breathtaking natural environment makes this experience exceptional, an immersion in sport and history.
